Trellises must be maintained every year. Their various parts do not last forever and the wooden stakes in particular must be replaced regularly. Ploughing the soil also tends to shorten the support structure's lifetime. At the end of winter, a round of the entire vineyard is made to replace any damaged stakes and supports.
Another issue is that the wires tend to become loose and can easily be cut during pruning, especially with electric pruning shears. The wires therefore need to be repaired and tightened. The securing wire at the end of the row must be particularly taut so that the vines can be properly attached to the trellis wires.
