There are different types of stakes: training stakes and trellis posts.
Stakes or markers:
(See "How to protect young plants from tillage" in the Tillage section)
The trellis posts are made of different materials:
-
Metal stakes: they can be re-used and are easier to position. Made of galvanized or stainless steel, these stakes are good value for money, the notches for hanging the trellising wires are already predetermined on each stake.
-
Wooden stakes: they are very resistant and are made of different types of wood: acacia, chestnut, spruce, pine, etc. They are less suitable for mechanical harvesting because of their low flexibility/manipulability. They require more work, especially when hammering the nails to attach the trellising wires.
-
There are also bamboo markers, more economical but less durable in the long-term.
