There is no ideal period to plant the replacement young vines, though it must be done between autumn and spring. The decision will be made depending on planting material type, local climate factors, and soil type.
Planting can take place anytime during the vines vegetative rest period, from the month of November to April or even as late as May. The vine type is also a factor when choosing the ideal planting period.
For example, more traditional grafted plants can be planted earliest, starting in January through March, as well as during Spring because of their long root lengths. Potted plants should be planted later during the spring months. Planting very late in the season should be avoided. The failure rate can be high if severe water stress develops quickly.
