Should treated or untreated products be used?
The products used for liming exist in different forms for which the content varies as well as the speed of action.
A distinction is made between untreated products (limestone, chalk, marl) and treated products (quicklime, magnesium quicklime, etc.). The latter have a much faster speed of action.
To differentiate the speed of action of the different untreated products, it is necessary to take into account the fineness and carbonic solubility. The fineness is defined by the NFU 44-001 standard. The finer the product used, the faster its action.
As for the carbonic solubility, the higher it is, the faster the action.
Carbon solubility | Speed of operations |
---|---|
Over 50 | Quick acting |
Between 20 and 50 | Average acting |
Below 20 | Slow acting |
Slower action is often preferred when planting. For existing vines, rapid action is preferred, particularly in the case of corrective liming.
